Yggdrasil project
Tree seed sourcing and nursery

Yggdrasil project

← Back to projects

A functioning centre that connects entire system; tree seed sourcing, quality and genetically diverse seedling production, and Food Forest demonstration.

Yggdrasil is a long-term initiative being implemented in Tanzania by Dreamnature Organization as the technical implementation partner, in cooperation with Landt Foundation as the financial partner. The project aims to strengthen agroforestry systems, facilitate learning and research, and generate field-based evidence. At its core, Yggdrasil supports the development of high-quality, genetically diverse tree seedlings and productive Food Forest systems that contribute to rural livelihoods and ecosystem restoration. The project establishes a living demonstration centre where the different parts of the system are developed and observed together from tree seed sourcing and seedbank development, to nursery production and establishment of productive Food Forests. The Food Forest demonstration serves as a living classroom. Farmers can return over time, observe how the system develops and learn from its performance across different seasons. They can see how trees, crops, soil, water and biomass interact under real farm conditions, including periods of water stress and changing weather conditions. Through practical observation and learning, farmers are supported to understand how to transform a conventional farm into a more productive, diverse and regenerative Food Forest system, and eventually apply what they learn on their own farms. The centre also provides a platform for research, learning exchange and documentation, helping generate practical evidence from the field that can inform future agroforestry development and wider application.
